How to reset or unpair Apple AirPods : Apple AirPods can sometimes start to perform after one year of use. Whether you are experiencing this issue or have purchased AirPods, the best solution is to reset the earbuds. Here’s how to make your AirPods behave like new ones.
Unpairing Your AirPods
Although there is no need to unpair AirPods from your iPhone or iPad to reset your headset, Apple recommends that you perform this step to remove it from your account.
You can also unpair AirPods from your Android smartphone, PC and other devices to ensure that the earbuds act as new features. These instructions are primarily for iPhone and iPad users, but the steps can be similarly copied to any hardware you have.
Note: If you purchased AirPods on a second-hand basis and have not yet connected them to your device, you can skip the unpairing process and go to the next section.
First jump to the Bluetooth settings on your phone or tablet. Access this menu by opening the Settings app and selecting Bluetooth.
Find your AirPods from the list of paired devices. Click the “i” info icon next to the headset name.
Next, select “Forget this device” to unpair the AirPods.
AirPod can be unpaired from your iPhone or iPad, regardless of whether the headset is currently connected. Either way, the headset will be removed from your Apple account.
Resettings Your AirPods
It’s time to wipe the Apple AirPods. Before starting, put two earplugs into the charging case and keep the cover closed for at least 30 seconds.
Next, open the lid of the AirPod case. Flip the case and find the settings button on the back of the device.
Press and hold the button until the status light on the enclosure flashes amber and then continues to flash white. This process can take up to 20 seconds.
Repairing Your AirPods
Finally, reconnect AirPods to your iPhone or iPad. Since the W1 or H1 chip is included, opening the cover of the headphone case near one of the Apple devices will automatically display a pop-up menu.
Click “Connect” to pair AirPods.
To pair your headset with your Android smartphone or Windows PC, open the cover and press and hold the AirPods setup button until the status light begins to flash. Go to your device’s Bluetooth menu and connect to the earbuds just like you would any other accessory.
AirPods are very easy to use and the process of resetting them is equally simple. Wiping the earbuds may take a few minutes, but it solves many problems and often plagues wireless headphones.
