One of the main novelties of the next Apple Watch models would be the replacement of its mechanical buttons with new haptic buttons designed to save space and make life much easier for users.
We have seen few changes in Apple Watch in recent years, and even less in design. However, Apple’s engineers are aware that, for their smartwatch to sell at the same level as an iPhone, changes must come.
The future Apple Watch models will boast haptic buttons
According to some rumors, the Cupertino-based company’s teams are going to replace the current Apple Watch mechanical buttons with haptic buttons.
In this way, while the current mechanical buttons must be pressed to make them travel a certain distance until they perform the function, with haptic buttons that is not necessary.
The haptic buttons, when pressed, reproduce a small vibration that will warn us that the action has been performed as if we had pressed it.
In this sense, and according to the source, only the buttons will be changed, since the crown will preserve its aesthetics and current function.
The future Apple Watch models will boast haptic buttons but also WatchOS 5 under the hood
Replacing mechanical buttons with other technology is not new for Apple since the mechanical home button has been replaced by a touch button on iPhone 7 that uses the Apple haptic engine they released in that generation.
Now, newer and improved haptic buttons will be implemented in the future Apple Watch smartwatches.
Not only is this going to be much more comfortable for the user but the design is also much more protected against dust or liquid ingress, with the addition of the consequent saving of interior space that can be used to, for example, increase the durability of the battery.
On the other hand, as it has been recently announced during the WWDC 2018, Apple rolled out the new WatchOS 5 which will power the future Apple Watch smartwatches.
